The Entire World Is Celebrating The News! The Vaccine Against Diabetes Has Been Officially Announced!

According to statistical information, in Unites States only, there are over 1.25 million diabetics patients. Diabetes is medical condition in which the patient’s body isn’t ready to produce or answer hormone insulin, which ends up in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood and urine

Currently, there isn’t cure for diabetes type one, however this illness with success is treated with medications, healthy and balanced nutrition and regular exercise.

Scientists conducted studies and discovered that vaccine used 100 years ago for tuberculosis (bacillus Calmette-guerin) has pledge in reversing of diabetes.

At the 75th Scientific Session of the American Diabetes Association it was officially announced that FDA will evaluate this vaccine on 150 patients who are in innovative stage of diabetes type 1.

Diabetes type 1 also is called juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes is chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin. This hormone allows sugar (glucose) to enter cells and produce energy or in other words, this hormone regulates the amount of glucose in the blood.

Body of patient who is suffering from diabetes type 1 doesn’t produce insulin due to the fact that the immune system damages cells that develop insulin. T cells are produced in bone narrow and later move the thymus and there they mature. Major driving force and main regulator of the immune defense are helper T cells. The T cells are responsible for issues in the pancreatic islets, and insulin is produced there. This old vaccine managed to remove these T cells.

Participants who were injected with this vaccine had a boost in the levels of the tumor necrosis factor. TNF is compound, or more precisely protein that is in charge for regulation of immune cells. When the levels of TNF are increased, the system starts destroying T cells, which actually impede production of insulin.

In previous trial, patients were injected tuberculosis vaccine, twice a week in period of 4 weeks. The results showed that harmful T cells are destroyed. But, scientists were amazed by the fact that some patients started to produce insulin.

Director of Massachusetts General Healthcare facility Immunobiology Laboratory in Boston, Denise Faustman, MD, PhD, is excited about the outcomes of the BCG vaccine.

Dr. Denise stated: “In the phase I (preliminary) trial we demonstrated a statistically considerable action to BCG but our goal in (this trial) is to develop an enduring restorative action. We will be working once again with people who have had type 1 diabetes for several years. This is not a prevention trial; rather, we are attempting to create a routine that will treat even advanced illness”.

Dr. Denise added that there is new trial coming in which she will utilize the same format as the previous one. Target group are patients at the age between 18 and 60 years. Namely, the topics will be injected with the vaccine, twice a week, in period of 4 weeks, and after that, once a year, in period of 4 years.

The Diabetes Care journal released the outcomes of past study in which were examined impact of bacillus Calmette-guerin (BCG) on kids who are suffering from diabetes. Kids were at the age between 5 and 18 years. Results showed that this vaccine doesn’t keep the beta-cell function and doesn’t raise the remission rate in kids.
